A puppy, lost in the winter cold for about 27 hours, was found in just 41 minutes using a thermal camera attached to a drone in Camden County two weeks ago.
Gina Manfredi’s 5-month-old puppy, Shade, slipped away from her two weeks ago on Feb. 20.
“I was two steps out of the house. I dropped something and the sound startled him,” Manfredi said Thursday. “He darted away and was able to slip out of his harness.”
Shade was outside in the cold for over 24 hours before being reunited with his owner after a thermal camera attached to a drone spotted the dog around the corner from Manfredi’s home.
After a neighborhood search the night before and consultation with another pet tracker, Michael Praziale of USAR Drone Team was called in to assist with the search the next day.
“Normally, if it’s a domesticated dog and been living with them [the owners] for several years, walking around the neighborhood, it doesn’t stray too far,” Praziale said Thursday.
