Novartis Pharmaceuticals is removing hundreds of New Jersey employees from its company.
The global drugmaker will lay off 427 employees from its U.S. headquarters in East Hanover, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification filing with the state.
The cuts will hit between June 13 and Oct. 24.
The layoffs are aimed at supporting the growth of the company’s cholesterol medication Leqvio and new products this year, according to a company spokesperson.
“To support this future portfolio, we have made changes to our CV commercialization model that optimize our support for patients throughout their treatment journey and simplify and strengthen how we engage with our customers. The new structure will be implemented April 1,” said spokesman Michael Meo.
The latest cuts are in addition to another 235 New Jersey layoffs announced by the company late last year.
Meo said Novartis would “encourage affected employees to apply for open positions in other areas of our business.”
Novartis Pharmaceuticals, whose global headquarters is in Switzerland, still employs about 3,000 people in New Jersey. It’s one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world, according to its website.
