The Dropkick Murphys are not holding back against MAGA followers.
Lead singer Ken Casey called out a member of the audience for wearing MAGA gear during a show in Clearwater, Fla., last weekend, The Boston Globe reported. The singer proposed a “friendly wager” with the audience member, betting the fan that his MAGA hat and shirt were not made in America.
“The reason we speak out, we don’t care if we lose fans, because when history is said and done, we want it known that the Dropkick Murphys stood with the people, we stood with the workers,” Casey said in the video. “It’s all a f—ing scam, guys.”
Casey also explained that the band’s merchandise is made in the United States.
“I don’t know if you guys are aware because we don’t go around f—ing bragging about it, but Dropkick Murphys always sells proudly made in America merchandise only,” Casey said. “And here’s the bet I’d like to make: If you lose the bet, we switch shirts, OK? If you win the bet, I give you $100 and the shirt.”
The band posted a video of the exchange to its YouTube page.
Casey joked that there was some “high drama” as the band played a drum roll and a stangehand checked the label of the clothing, according to The Boston Globe.
“It’s made in Nicaragua!” Casey yelled. “He’s taking the shirt off. We’re taking crime off the streets.”
More from The Boston Globe:
While this fan exchange ended on an amicable note, the Dropkick Murphys haven’t been afraid to scuffle with unruly fans in the past. In 2019, Casey tussled with a fan during a concert at the House of Blues, telling the Globe after the incident that a “guy was attacking fans and I was trying to defend them.” Casey also got into an altercation with an audience member in 2013, punching a person for making what appeared to be a Nazi salute during a concert in New York.
Casey has frequently spoken out against the president over the years during Dropkick Murphys concerts, going so far as to call him “the greatest swindler in the history of the world” during a concert in Pennsylvania in 2022.
The Dropkick Murphys are just one of many bands who have been outspoken against the Trump administration. A number of bands and entertainers have pulled their shows from the Kennedy Center after Trump announced he would be taking it over.
