President Donald Trump warned Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin about comedian Rosie O’Donnell, who revealed she left the United States earlier this year.
O’Donnell revealed in a TikTok video earlier this week that she moved to Ireland on Jan. 15, explaining that she will consider moving back to the U.S. when “it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights.” During a meeting in the Oval Office on Wednesday, conservative commentator Brian Glenn asked Martin why he would “let” the comedian move to his country.
“Why in the world would you let Rosie O’Donnell move to Ireland?,” Glenn, a reporter for Real America’s Voice, asked Martin.
Martin did not answer before Trump interjected to take a jab at O’Donnell, a staunch critic of the president.
“Thank you, I like that question. Did you know you have Rosie O’Donnell? Do you know who she is? You’re better off not knowing,” Trump responded.
O’Donnell and Trump have exchanged barbs for years, with the feud beginning in 2006 after she criticized him on “The View” over his decision to be “lenient” toward a Miss USA winner, according to Fox News.
He later insulted her during the 2016 GOP presidential primary debate when then-Fox News host Megyn Kelly questioned him about disparaging comments he made about women.
O’Donnell said it’s been “pretty wonderful” in Ireland, where she said she is planning on getting her Irish citizenship.
“Although I was never someone who thought I would move to another country, that’s what I decided would be the best for myself and my 12-year-old child. And here we are,” she said in the video.
“When it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights there in America, that’s when we will consider coming back. It’s been heartbreaking to see what’s happening politically and hard for me personally as well,” she added.
Many celebrities including former television host Ellen DeGeneres, said they would flee the U.S. if Trump was reelected to the White House.
