BALDWIN PARK, Calif. (KABC) — Exclusive video from AIR7 shows the end of a 12-hour standoff with a woman who barricaded herself in a front office at Olive Middle School in Baldwin Park.
There has been no official confirmation from the Baldwin Park Police Department, but multiple social media posts claim the woman who barricaded herself inside a campus building is a teacher at the school.
In one post on social media, the alleged suspect claims she is being held hostage inside the building, and she names Olive Middle School in the video.
The school’s website has a photo of that same woman — identifying her as a 6th-grade math and science teacher.
Earlier Thursday, police surrounded the building with squad cars, blocking several of the exit doors. All of the students and staff were evacuated.
A BearCat and a K-9 were also brought to the scene. At one point, officers injected tear gas into the building.
A swarm of officers eventually breached a door, pulling the woman outside, where she was handcuffed and taken by an ambulance to be checked out.
Classes have been canceled at Olive Middle School on Friday, according to the district. Classes will resume on Monday.
BPUSD issued the following statement before the woman’s arrest:
“We continue to work closely with law enforcement agencies to secure the campus as the investigation continues. Out of an abundance of caution, classes at Olive Middle School will be canceled for tomorrow, Thursday, May 2, 2025. All other BPUSD schools will remain open and operate on their normal schedules. The safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority.
We want to extend our deepest thanks to the Olive Middle School community for their cooperation during today’s dismissal. Mental health support resources are available to families and students who may need additional care. At this time, we plan to resume school at Olive Middle School on Monday, May 5, 2025.
We thank our families, staff, and community for standing with us to prioritize safety and care.”
